2024 Education Trust Fund Grant Program Announced
Jan 11, 2024 - Montgomery – The Alabama Historical Commission, the State Historic Preservation Office, has opened its 2024 Grant Program with funds appropriated by the Alabama Legislature. Historic sites meeting the eligibility can submit applications January 16 through March 29, 2024.

Confederate Memorial Park to host Winter Quarters
Jan 8, 2024 - Montgomery – Confederate Memorial Park, a historical property of the Alabama Historical Commission, will host a special living history event on Saturday, January 27, 2024 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Visitors will experience the 22nd Alabama Infantry at winter quarters in 1862. Activities will take place in and around the barracks, which were constructed using original Army plans from the 1860s.

Statement Regarding Clotilda’s Mistaken Identity from Local News Story on November 1, 2023
Nov 6, 2023 - The recent news story regarding the Clotilda being seen above water is inaccurate and the wreck visible in the video footage is in fact another historic wreck that the Alabama Historical Commission (AHC) has documented and identified as the Lake Ellijay. The Lake Ellijay is a steel-hulled steamer built in World War I and was left in Mobile for scrapping and can be seen in the video footage shared online.

Fort Toulouse-Fort Jackson to Host Frontier Days in November
Oct 27, 2023 - Montgomery – The Alabama Historical Commission (AHC) invites you to its annual Alabama Frontier Days event on November 1-4, from 9:00 am – 4:00pm, at Fort Toulouse-Fort Jackson in Wetumpka, AL.
Celebrated as one of Alabama’s largest and most authentic living history events, Alabama Frontier Days brings the early 18th century frontier to vivid life. This event puts into focus the South as it transitioned from Creek Indian lands to military forts and civilian homesteads from 1700 to 1820. Using Fort Toulouse-Fort Jackson as a historical backdrop, the public can experience living historians who will bring the fort to life through military reenactments with booming cannon fire and captivating demonstrations of frontier crafts and trades.
