As the country and world respond to coronavirus and the COVID-19 situation, the Alabama Historical Commission and management staff remain vigilant in accessing the best course of action for AHC staff and visitors to our main office and historic sites.

As of Thursday, March 19, the Alabama Historical Commission will act on the recommendations of public health officials and Governor Ivey to implement a plan for social distancing. In the interest of public health and safety, the Alabama Historical Commission's main office and select historic sites have been closed to the public since March 16, and all events and programs are cancelled until April 30. The agency will reevaluate these closures by that time.

We are committed to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace for our employees and helping our historic sites visitors to do the same. We encourage all of you to follow the public health authorities’ guidance regarding hygiene and personal travel.

We are aware that this situation is changing rapidly and are accessing our practices closely. AHC’s website, social media, and email channels will be utilized to disseminate information and any changes pertaining to our sites and programs. Thank you, and be well.
