The Alabama Historical Commission and the Black Heritage Council presented awards to nominees of the 2019 Historic Preservation Awards. Recipients were be honored during the Alabama Preservation Conference, held in conjunction with the Alabama Historical Association Annual Meeting April 25-27, 2019 at the Embassy Suites in Tuscaloosa.

Alabama Historical Commission Preservation Awards

The Alabama Historical Commission and the Black Heritage Council presented Distinguished Service Awards and the Idella Childs Award at the Friday evening awards banquet during the joint meeting of the Alabama Historical Commission, Alabama Historical Association, Alabama Trust for Historic Preservation, and Black Heritage Council.

AHC Presented Distinguished Service Awards to Senator Ann Bedsole, the late Mr. Nicholas Holmes, Jr., and the late Mrs. Mary Ann Neeley.  The Black Heritage Council presented the Idella Childs Award to the Normal Historic District Preservation Association.

On May 17, Hannah Garmon will be presenting at the 12th Annual “Memorial In May” Cemetery Preservation Regional Conference sponsored by PAAC, Inc. (Preservation of African American Cemeteries) has been scheduled for May 17-18, 2019 in Montgomery Alabama at the Drury Inn Hotel & Suites Ballroom.
