"COOKING WITH COMMISSARY" LIVING HISTORY CONTINUES AT CONFEDERATE MEMORIAL PARK
Oct 11, 2019  -  The Alabama Historical Commission and Confederate Memorial Park are pleased to announce “Cooking with Commissary” as part of their 2019 Living History series. On Saturday, October19, from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, living historians will give demonstrations on food preparations during the Civil War.

Sep 27, 2019  -  On Friday, October 4, from 10am – 2pm, the Alabama Historical Commission (AHC), in conjunction with the Alabama Bicentennial Commission, is hosting a special ALABAMA200 event honoring the first permanent state capital at Cahawba.
ALABAMA HISTORICAL COMMISSION WILL SEEK FINAL ORDER TO CONFIRM OWNERSHIP OF CLOTILDA
Sep 24, 2019  -  In July, the Alabama Historical Commission, the State Historic Preservation Office, filed Admiralty Claim in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Alabama in Mobile as part of an ongoing and long-term protection and preservation plan for the Clotilda, the last-known slave ship in the United States. Pursuant to the claimant process, the official “Notice of Action in rem and Arrest of Vessel” was published for three consecutive weeks in the Lagniappe, beginning August 16, 2019. Potential plaintiffs were advised to file any claim with the court no later than 14 days after the final publication of the notice, which would have been Friday, September 13, 2019.
FREEDOM RIDES MUSEUM WELCOMES HEZEKIAH WATKINS, THE YOUNGEST FREEDOM RIDER, FOR WEEKEND EVENTS IN ALABAMA
Sep 13, 2019  -  On Friday, September 13, join the Alabama Historical Commission and the Freedom Rides Museum in welcoming Hezekiah Watkins, the youngest Freedom Rider, to Alabama. As part of his visit to Montgomery, Watkins will be meeting with Montgomery area school children to share his story and inspire the next generation of 13-year-olds set to change history
