OLD CAHAWBA TO HOST 'CHRISTMAS, CRAFTS, AND COOKIES' EVENT
Nov 30, 2021  -  Old Cahawba Archaeological Park, a historic site operated by the Alabama Historical Commission, will be hosting its “Christmas, Crafts, and Cookies” event on Saturday, December 4, from 10-11 a.m. Visitors will catch the Christmas spirit while discovering how the townspeople of Cahawba celebrated, and enjoying activities like making a traditional Christmas ornament, sipping on hot cocoa and eating holiday cookies. All age groups are welcome.
CLOTILDA ADDED TO NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES; PHASE 3 ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXPLORATION OF SHIP AND SITE UNDERWAY
Nov 16, 2021  -  (Montgomery, AL) The submerged wreck of the Clotilda, located in waters near Mobile, Alabama, was officially listed in the National Register of Historic Places on November 8, 2021. Phase 3 of the archaeological survey of the ship and surrounding site is currently underway. The Phase 3 exploration and site evaluation was funded by the Alabama State Legislature with a $1 million appropriation to the Alabama Historical Commission in its FY2021 budget.
CONFEDERATE MEMORIAL PARK TO HOST SPECIAL CHRISTMAS PRESENTATION
Nov 12, 2021  -  (Marbury, AL) Confederate Memorial Park, a historical property of the Alabama Historical Commission, will host a special presentation on Saturday, Dec. 11, at 10 a.m. During the presentation, visitors will learn how veterans at the Alabama Soldiers’ Home celebrated Christmas and how the outside community helped to make their holiday bright and merry.
BYOB (BRING YOUR OWN BICYCLE) TOUR AT OLD CAHAWBA SET FOR NOV. 6
Oct 25, 2021  -  (Montgomery, AL) Old Cahawba Archaeological Park, a historic site operated by the Alabama Historical Commission, will be hosting its BYOB (Bring Your Own Bicycle) Tour on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021, from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. The fall foliage and mild temperatures make this time of year ideal to visit historic Cahawba, perfect to come explore Alabama’s most famous ghost town by bike. On this one-hour tour, your guide will lead you over four miles of mostly unpaved but level roads, exploring a landscape of relics, ruins, and graveyards.
