POND SPRING AND JOE WHEELER STATE PARK TO HOST NATURE WALKS APRIL 24-25
Apr 8, 2021 - Pond Spring, the General Joe Wheeler Home, a historic site operated by the Alabama Historical Commission, and Joe Wheeler State Park are teaming up to present Daniella’s Spring Stroll nature walks on Saturday and Sunday, April 24-25, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. each day. The event will educate visitors about flora native to the area and provide a historical tour of the property.

SUPPORT POND SPRING AT MISS ANNIE WHEELER'S DRIVE-THRU HEIRLOOM PLANT SALE
Apr 6, 2021 - A favorite event returns this spring, modified for social distancing. Miss Annie’s Heirloom Plant Sale, an annual fundraiser for Pond Spring, the General Joe Wheeler Home, will be a “drive-thru” event this year. Supporters can place an order over the phone and arrange a date and time for pickup, with plants delivered right to the car. Orders and pickup will run from April 12-30.

OLD CAHAWBA TO HOST CIVIL WAR WALKING TOUR APRIL 3
Mar 17, 2021 - On Saturday, April 3, at 10 a.m., Old Cahawba Archaeological Park, a historic property of the Alabama Historical Commission, invites visitors to take part in a guided, one-hour Civil War Walking Tour of the grounds of Castle Morgan, Cahaba’s prison for captured Union soldiers. Park guests will hear harrowing accounts of soldiers from both armies who called Cahawba home during wartime. Tickets for this event are $8 per person and are available at the Visitor Center.

AHC WELCOMES DR. MEGHAN BUCHANAN AS NEW COMMISSIONER
Mar 9, 2021 - The Alabama Historical Commission is pleased to welcome Dr. Meghan Buchanan as its newest Commissioner. Dr. Buchanan is an Assistant Professor of Anthropology at Auburn University and will represent the Alabama Archaeological Society on the Commission.
