AHC WELCOMES ALEX KRUMDIECK AS NEW COMMISSIONER
Jun 10, 2021  -  The Alabama Historical Commission is pleased to welcome Alex Krumdieck as its newest Commissioner. Mr. Krumdieck is Director of the Urban Studio in Birmingham and Associate Professor of Architecture, School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture, College of Architecture, Design and Construction at Auburn University (AU). He will represent Auburn University on the Commission.
'ART OF THE DISH' EVENT AT BELLE MONT MANSION JUNE 24-26 WILL SHOWCASE HISTORIC AND VINTAGE CHINA AND TABLEWARE
Jun 9, 2021  -  “Art of the Dish,” the popular antique and vintage china exhibit, will return to Belle Mont Mansion Thursday through Saturday, June 24-26. Individuals from across the communities of the Shoals have been invited to display china and tableware from their private collections, some dating from the 1700s and spanning through the mid-20th Century.
FREE ADMISSION AT OLD CAHAWBA TO CELEBRATE MASONS OF ALABAMA 200TH ANNIVERSARY
Jun 2, 2021  -  Visitors to Old Cahawba Archaeological Park, a historic property of the Alabama Historical Commission, will enjoy free admission on Saturday, June 12, sponsored by the Free and Accepted Masons of Alabama in celebration of their 200th Birthday. It will highlight the role that Old Cahawba played in the earliest years of Alabama statehood.
RESTORED VINTAGE GREYHOUND BUS TO RETRACE FREEDOM RIDES ROUTE FROM ARDMORE TO MONTGOMERY
May 13, 2021  -  The restored vintage Greyhound bus that is part of the Freedom Rides Museum permanent collection will retrace part of the journey of the Freedom Riders beginning May 18. The bus will visit Ardmore, Tennessee, and Birmingham, Alabama, before arriving in Montgomery at 10:23 a.m. on May 20 – the date and time the bus arrived in the city 60 years ago, where student Freedom Riders were met with violence. The bus will arrive at the Freedom Rides Museum, a historic property of the Alabama Historical Commission.
