Fort Morgan State Historic Site, Gulf Shores, Alabama
Although no military members occupy Fort Morgan’s grounds any longer, you are invited to experience the fort through their eyes. Throughout the 19th century, soldiers traversed the dark chambers and steep stairways throughout Fort Morgan at all hours of the day, protecting Mobile Bay during the Civil War and the Spanish-American War. Later, in the 20th century, the fort was used as a training base during World War I and guarded valuable U.S. territory during World War II.
Daily tours, beginning at 10:00 a.m., will be offered during the months of June and July. Living History interpreters dressed in period attire will guide visitors through the fort. Weapon demonstrations will provide an up-close experience of a soldier’s life.
The one-hour evening events begin on the grounds at 7:00 p.m. each Tuesday for the months of June and July, and will give visitors a glimpse into what evenings were like for Confederate and U.S. troops over the centuries. Re-enactors dressed in period clothing will guide visitors through the fort, either speaking directly to them about the events that occurred there, or talking to each other as though it were 1861, allowing visitors to "eavesdrop" into a Confederate soldier's life to learn more about the time period.
Weather conditions may cause an event to be cancelled. Information will be posted to website and Facebook. Event will not be rescheduled if cancelled.
