Confederate Memorial Park, Marbury, Alabama

Confederate Memorial Park and the Alabama Historical Commission are pleased to announce Winter Quarters 1862.

Using an authentically reproduced Civil War barracks, over 100 re-enactors will provide an immersive experience for visitors. Winter weather during the Civil War created impassable roads and other harsh conditions that significantly slowed most campaigns. Soldiers busied themselves with a variety of duties including drill, work detail, music, and games. Come see what life was like for soldiers during the cold winter months.  

Admission to all activities is FREE. Saturday, January 26 will provide the greatest range of activities for visitors. Donations to the museum are appreciated.

About Confederate Memorial Park
The park also offers free self-guided tours of the site of Alabama’s only Home for Confederate veterans including two cemeteries where 298 veterans rest along with 15 veterans’ wives and widows. The site showcases a nature trail which combines an Alabama “Treasure Forest” with features from the Soldiers’ Home. Confederate Memorial Park, a historic property of the Alabama Historical Commission, is located at 437 Co Rd 63, Marbury, AL 36051.

About the Alabama Historical Commission
Located in historic downtown Montgomery at 468 S. Perry Street, the Alabama Historical Commission is the state historic preservation agency for Alabama. The agency was created by an act of the state legislature in 1966 with a mission to protect, preserve and interpret Alabama’s historic places.
