AHC welcomes Alex Krumdieck as new Commissioner

(Montgomery, AL) The Alabama Historical Commission is pleased to welcome Alex Krumdieck as its newest Commissioner.

Mr. Krumdieck is Director of the Urban Studio in Birmingham and Associate Professor of Architecture, School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture, College of Architecture, Design and Construction at Auburn University (AU). He will represent Auburn University on the Commission. 

“Alex Krumdieck’s work with both the Auburn Urban Studio and with communities small and large across Alabama will be a valuable asset to the Alabama Historical Commission,” said Eddie Griffith, Commission Chairman. “His experience in leadership of project teams of city officials, developers and design students in the study and implementation of design solutions for historic neighborhoods and towns is a welcome addition to the expertise that Commissioners bring to the AHC.”

The Urban Studio is an outreach program of the AU College of Architecture Planning and Landscape Architecture imbedding students in the city and using its rich environment as a laboratory to study, affect, and change the existing urban condition and enrich student experience, preparing them for their future both as architects and community leaders.

“Our Commissioners provide essential support for our mission to preserve our state’s valuable historic resources through our various programs,” said Lisa D. Jones, AHC Executive Director and State Historic Preservation Officer. “We are pleased to welcome Prof. Krumdieck to the Alabama Historical Commission and look forward to working with him.”

Prof. Krumdieck represents Auburn University on the Commission in the place of Karen Rogers upon her retirement from the Commission after 12 years of service.

The Alabama Historical Commission is the state agency charged with safeguarding Alabama’s historic buildings and sites. Created by an act of the state legislature in 1966, it consists of 21 appointed members who represent a broad cross section of Alabamians.

Located in historic downtown Montgomery at 468 S. Perry Street, the Alabama Historical Commission is the state historic preservation agency for Alabama. The agency was created by an act of the state legislature in 1966 with a mission to protect, preserve and interpret Alabama’s historic places. AHC works to accomplish its mission through two fields of endeavor: Preservation and promotion of state-owned historic sites as public attractions; and, statewide programs to assist people, groups, towns, and cities with local preservation activities.
