“Art of the Dish” event at Belle Mont Mansion June 23-25 will showcase

historic and vintage fine china and tableware

(Tuscumbia, AL) – “Art of the Dish,” the popular antique and vintage china exhibit, will be held at Belle Mont Mansion June 23-25, 2022. Individuals from across the communities of the Shoals have been invited to display their private collections of china and tableware, some dating back to the 1700s.

An array of colorful porcelain and ironstone pieces, accented with glassware in various tablescapes, will be set throughout Belle Mont. George Terrell will provide an informative and entertaining program, discussing dining customs during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Terrell, a native of Tuscumbia, is a former history professor and a well-known collector, speaker, and author.

"We are really excited that we are able to welcome back George Terrell to provide an informative and entertaining talk about the ways in which people in the late 1800's entertained and the etiquette and customs associated with dining when the Victorians served multiple courses and used an array of silverware to accompany the meal”, said Ninon Parker, Site Director of Belle Mont Mansion. “George brings it to life in a descriptive and humorous way.  His experience as a history teacher has given him insight into engaging his audience.  We love having him come to Belle Mont, not only to share his knowledge, but to grace our display tables with period Austrian china and to create exquisite floral displays to accompany the 'Art of the Dish'."

Preferred seating and a box lunch, catered by Sweet Basil Alabama, will be available June 24 and 25, at 11 am and 1 pm each day. Tickets for the program and lunch are $25 and should be purchased in advance to reserve preferred seating time. Tickets are available at Belle Mont Mansion and at Fiddledee D! Gift Shop (111 S. Main St., Tuscumbia). Tickets may also be purchased by credit card by calling the museum at 256-381-5052.

Guided tours of the museum and exhibit will be offered at the standard admission rates during regular business hours. All proceeds generated by “Art of the Dish” will benefit the continued preservation and operation of the historic house museum.
